We are hiring…

kitchen lead role

at the training kitchen and cafe

We are looking for a caring, supportive lead in the kitchen to be able to manage service alongside the training programme. Can you keep cool whilst spinning the pans and demonstrating a step by step guide too? This role requires a keen eye for detail not only in the kitchen but for the care of our trainees. Our trainees are all levels and may have no experience in hospitality yet. The goal is to use our skills and passion to spark a fire in the young people to thrive in a team and see the joy in cooking, learning and sharing for whatever career they may choose in the future.

The right person for this role will support the wider team of trained counsellors and hospo whizzes in getting to know each individual trainee, listen to their needs, understand their barriers and help them to discover their strengths through the work we do at The Perfect Place to Grow.

Every aspect of TPPTG; FOH, BOH, events, placements all help to expose the young people to new and sometimes nervy experiences. So the right person for this role is someone who wants to support young people, be reactive to navigate their barriers as well as want to uplift and enthuse through the emotions that come with learning something new.

We would like the right person for this role to:

  • Have an understanding and drive to support those experiencing socio-economic barriers, nutritional deprivation

  • Share responsibility in the team to support trainees into sustainable employment during working hours. To continue to learn how to support each individual so they can learn to support themselves towards a better future

  • Passion for F&B and the wellbeing of young adults to secure skills, confidence and achieve long-term goals of sustainable employment

  • Confident FOH and BOH: An understanding of hospitality, especially how to deliver quality food and service, ordering and costing in-line with senior staff guidelines.

  • Team-orientated

  • Patient listener

  • Flexibility - some weekends and evening work, some front of house/event support as needed

  • Full UK Drivers License

  • Nutrition/Healthy Eating knowledge

  • 2+ years experience in chef role (management preferably)

  • Knowledge and mindful of indices of deprivation, barriers to work our trainees may be experiencing

  • Able to create user-friendly and engaging recipes for cooking sessions

  • Great people skills to build rapport with learners and strike a balance between being supportive and challenging them for development.

  • Clearly communicating progress, challenges and development with the wider support team for monitoring and evaluation of the trees - digitally, verbally and in any required paperwork within a timely manner

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills to deliver engaging training sessions and experience in doing this

  • Excellent scheduling and time management skills to manage workload. Clear communication with senior staff on work-load management

  • Experience delivering training to a kitchen workforce or adult learners or working with/teaching children and young people

As this role is made to support the trainees, we’ll ask candidates to join us for a trial shift during interview.
