Throughout 2025 we’ll be tidying up a food-growing area at Quex Park, turning it into a productive teaching garden where young people and local volunteers can learn and practice communal food growing. The produce grown here will help supply our teaching kitchen.

Thanks to some very hard-working volunteers we’ve already made great progress bringing the space back to productivity. We now offer regular volunteering opportunities there every Wednesday, 10am-3pm (feel free to drop by for an hour or even just to say hi - there’s no expectation if you do come and volunteer).

We hope to create more regular volunteer and learning opportunities, particularly on weekends, as the site develops. We do occasional Saturday sessions - we’ll let you know via the mailing list and/or social media when we plan these.

Register your interest using the form below. We will only take your preferred contact method and a name to refer to you by. We’ll get in touch using email or text message first to confirm.

While we hope to make the space more accessible in future, right now we can only welcome volunteers without existing cardiovascular, neurological or musculoskeletal complaints onto the field for horticultural work. If you’d just like to come by and see what’s going on, have a cup of tea and meet some new people there are no requirements whatsoever (although for the time being the space is not wheelchair-friendly).

How will you store this data?

We’re trying to collect the minimum amount of personal data at this stage. If we can’t get in touch with you to confirm your interest we’ll delete your data after the third attempt. Once we do get in touch we’ll ask a few more questions, including how comfortable you are with us keeping your details on file.

Silver Avenue is accessible via Quex Park. From the main entrance, follow the road around past the car parks on a slow left curve. Past the garden centre you’ll see Silver Avenue on your left - we’re at the far end on the right-hand side (you’ll see our polytunnel on the right as you walk down).

Once your on the mailing list we’ll put you in touch with other volunteers and staff for car-sharing. If you want to cycle we can bring your bike onto the growing space where it’ll be secure. The closest bus stop is The Square in Birchington.
